They come in two versions, tanker or dry cargo.

A free-fall lifeboat is the fastest way of escaping from a vessel/platform in emergencies. They simply slide out from a ramp onboard and hit the water well away from the ship or installation with a high positive forward motion. These boats comply with the latest IMO/SOLAS regulations and come in tanker and drycargo versions.

Partially enclosed lifeboats are used primarily on passenger vessels, cruise lines, and ferry operators where user friendliness and high boat capacity are priorities. Needless to say, they comply with the latest IMO/SOLAS regulations and come with new on-load release hooks as required by the IMO.

Harding’s unique Totally Enclosed Davit concept integrates highly efficient electrical and hydraulic systems into the davit structure providing optimal protection against wear and tear.

This type of davit is used to lower lifeboats with the help of the boat’s weight. The davit is designed for lowering the lifeboat in a continuous motion as turning out and lowering are both driven by gravity.

Free-Fall Davits usually are deck mounted, placed at the stern of the ship, comprise of a launch ramp, bottom frame, and an A- frame to launch and recover the compatible lifeboat.

Rig davit systems comprise two fixed arms and an electrically powered winch. These davits use the weight of the boat to lower it into the water, independent of external power supply.

Rescue boat davits, single arm or A-frame, are freestanding deck mounted davits designed for safe and efficient launching and retrieval of rescue boats, and in some cases liferafts.

Electric Boat Winches lower and retrieve life/rescue boats using single or double wire falls. Winches usually comprise of a drum for coiling the wire, gearbox, centrifugal brakes, electric motor, limit switches, etc.

SOLAS Chapter II-2, Part G, Regulation 18 states that additional measures should be taken to address the fire safety objectives of this chapter for ships fitted with special facilities for helicopters.

Therefore, the following fire fighting appliances shall be provided and stored near the means of access to the helideck in close proximity: Fire Extinguishers, Foam Application System, 2 sets of Fire-Fighter’s Outfits, and a set helicopter rescue equipment.

The Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA UK) CAP 437 standards strongly recommend helicopter rescue equipment be stored in a clearly marked and secure watertight cabinet or chest. A responsible person should be appointed to check and maintain the equipment regularly, and an inventory checklist should be held inside the equipment cabinet/chest. REFURBISHMENT
Our advanced service stations and repair facilities are well equipped to carry out complete servicing, overhaul, and repair of Engine and Sprinkler Systems, FRP Hull & Body, Release Gear, Davit and Winch, Fall Wire renewal, and Hydrostatic testing and refilling of compressed air systems. We also offer replacement equipment for hire during the overhaul stage, subject to availability.

RIGID AND INFLATABLE RESCUE BOAT SERVICING
In accordance to IMO 1206/rev.1, all rigid and inflatable rescue boats also are to be subjected to the annual and 5-yearly inspection and maintenance routines as described before. An additional pressure test of the buoyancy chamber of the inflatable rescue boat is required as per manufacturer’s guidelines.

Release Hook Inspection

Lifeboats are undisputedly the most important maritime safety tool, placed on all sorts of ships, rigs, platforms and other marine-related structures. Periodic inspections and maintenance of Lifeboats are critical to prevent life boat accidents that cause major injuries and may even result in fatalities. SHM is a full-service provider with regulatory certification, OEM-trained technicians and OEM engineering support that is required to provide you complete the lifeboat services you need as per IMO 1206. Lifeboats are undisputedly the most important maritime safety tool, placed on all sorts of ships, rigs, platforms and other marine-related structures. Periodic inspections and maintenance of Lifeboats are critical to prevent life boat.

SOLAS Regulation III/ 20.8 requires every inflatable liferaft to be serviced at an interval not exceeding 12 months. In case this annual service impracticable. The Administration may extend this period to 17 months. SOLAS also mandates that liferafts should be serviced at approved service stations which maintain proper infrastructure and use properly trained personnel.

IMMERSION SUIT SERVICES
Seams, closures, adhesives and materials of immersion suits and anti- exposure suits have a finite service life and experience deterioration with time.

As per IMO Guidelines (MSC/Circ.1114), in order to ensure the maintenance of adequate strength and water tightness of seams and closures of immersion suits with age, it is recommended to subject

INFLATABLE LIFEJACKETS
Just as in liferafts, SOLAS requires inflatable lifejackets to be serviced at intervals not exceeding 12 months or, 17 months if the Administration gives an extension. DISPOSAL OF TIME EXPIRED PYROTECHNICS
Disposal of time Expired Pyrotechnics
Pyrotechnics need to be landed ashore as soon as they expire and disposed off in an environment friendly manner to prevent their misuse and recycling. In view of this, the Nautical Wing of DG Shipping, Govt. of India, issued LSA Circular 1 of 2015 which states,

“...time expired Pyrotechnics which were intended for use on board ships and survival crafts are being misused, fraudulently by way of tampering with the dates of expiry… it was reported that such malpractices are being practiced by the life raft stations and suppliers of pyrotechnics...Considering the fact that the pyrotechnics are essential life saving appliance on board ships, in case of distress at sea, any malpractice will jeopardize the safety of lives at sea.

...The shipping companies, suppliers and life rafts stations are hereby reminded of their responsibility to ensure use of genuine pyrotechnics...such agencies are directed to ensure disposal...through suitable facilities which are either controlled by the Government Organization or approved by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO)...defaulters may be prosecuted which may amount to a penalty as imprisonment which can extend up to six months.”

We undertake disposal of time expired pyrotechnics as per our principal manufacturer’s guidelines and under the supervision of PESO.

CARGO GEAR SERVICES
SHM is well equipped with the infrastructure and technical expertise to inspect, test and endorse all lifting appliances and loose gears in the Indian Cargo Register, as per Dock Workers (Safety,Health,andWelfare) Regulations.

When a lifting appliance fails, serious injury and death can occur. Therefore lifting appliances and loose gear should be load tested at set periods as required by national regulations.

Container Lifting Crane
Various national regulatory bodies require all ship lifting appliances to be thoroughly examined by a ‘competent’ person’ at least once every year.

Gear Examination
Loose gears such as hooks, blocks, chains, grab buckets, etc. should be thoroughly examined by a ‘competent person’ at least once every year and load tested every five years along with major lifting

GANGWAY & ACCOMODATION LADDER TESTING
We at SHM have the infrastructure and technical expertise to inspect, service, and repair Gangways and Accomodation Ladders, including their associate winches and fittings, in accordance with SOLAS and manufacturers guidelines.

WHAT DOES THE NEW IMO REGULATION SAY?
According to the MSC. 1392/Circ.1, the new copmliant hook systems must meet the new requirements concerning the lock ing arrangement and stability of the hook system. The new hook systems must be manufactured in corrosion resistant material. The new LSA Code and MSC.81(70) states the following test criteria
